John Deere 335 Round Baler Manual

Baler

I have always made square bales and I always had plenty of help because I have a very attractive daughter. Now that she has gone to college, the boys don't come around to show off throwing hay bales and I have a whole bunch of work to do with very little help. So now I am faced with a decision. I can either hire a young man or two to help me or I can just buy a round baler.

Here is the catch. I only have a 42hp tractor with one double acting remote. My ground is mostly flat with a roll to it here and there.

I know how to run a round baler, but I am looking for advice on which one would not be too expensive and would operate with 42hp in front of it. Any and all suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. I've got a NH 848 that I use in hilly ground behind a worn out 48HP tractor.

It needs one pair of hydraulic outlets, and has a hand crank twine wrap. S'posed to make an 800 pound bale - never have weighed one. I like it - it's been trouble free. There's nothing better than a pretty daughter to attract good hay help - especially if she can cook. One of our high school friends lost her Mom while she was in the eighth grade, and I was always amazed by the meals she would fix for us haymakers.

She'd cook a meal as good as any 60 year old grandmother, and she was mighty nice to look at, too. Every boy in the neighborhood was in love with her.

Had the same problem as you - Kids grown and married. But my wife doesn't help with the hay either. I have a Hesston 5530 and run it with a JD 2010D with no problems. The 5530 is only 39' (1 meter) wide and makes a 1m x 4ft bale. Has a manual twine wrap with a pull rope.

I can easily handle the bales with a 3pt spear on even my 8N, or with a bucket spear on my old Bobcat. My daughter baled with this Hesston on her farm for a number of years before switching to a large square. Your tractor should handle it with no problem! You could run a smaller round baler like a 4x4 or 4x5 Vermeer that has the slow down kit on it. I think they run on something like 35 hp.

I forget the number but I think it's something like 405i or whatever their current series is. Do you have a market for round bales? If you're selling square ones or need square bales. Mabey you'd be further ahead to get a bale basket or accumulator/grapple system to handle the little bales? Round bales are great around here for our own use and nearly useless if one needs to sell any.

Very little market. I can not help with the baler but I can feel for you big time. I still do a few square bales but my neighbors come and help and I make 35lbs bales to boot. I understand the kid thing and both my son and daughter have left so I have me and the wife.

Just lucky I have good neighbors who want me to bale there field for them on a 50/50 thing and they throw 95% of the bales. Most good dealers will be able to help as to what baler you will need but some will try to sell you one that will not work I know BTDT and learned.

A 4X4 baler is probably about the right size. With a 42 pto HP tractor I'd stay with the smaller round balers.like a 4x4. You can purchase an external selector valve that attaches to the baler to handle a two circuit requirement.one for the chamber gate and the other for twine wrapping. I had one on my old JD 410 that tripped with a rope.

Some of the older round balers had a manual twine wrapping arrangement. Using a rope. Newer balers use an electric twine wrap approach. The most important consideration, in my judgement, is to buy a baler that has been stored undercover. Belts and bearing deteriorate rapidly in the rain and sun. You will pay more for a unit that has been taken care of, but over the years it will be less likely to break down. Just when you want to bale.

Another piece of advice, choose a baler that you can get spare parts for. So check with the appropriate equipment dealer before you buy anything.

He will know more than I do so I'm sending him a link to this web site so he can better answer your questions and ask more of his own. Thanks for the replies so far. challengertn: 5/31/2010 10:31.
