Sometimes the stars align in life and business and everyone gets to win. A scenario just like that occurred here at PR Flex and I thought it would be a great case study to share, so here goes: About a week ago, we got an email from Michael Raphael, the CEO of a company called. Direct Dimensions is based in Owings Mills, Md. And specializes in laser scanning to create 3D images and replications. The company gets its hands (and lasers) on some incredible, such as laser scans of the Liberty Bell, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and virtual recreations of images and faces.
What prompted Michael to get in touch with PR Flex was that his company had a hand in some of the most memorable scenes in the hit film, “Night at the Museum 2.” Specifically, Direct Dimensions scanned the Lincoln Memorial, and the data from the project was used to create the scenes where Lincoln hops down from his massive chair and takes a stroll through town. Michael had a hunch that this was newsworthy - and he was right. So after he got in touch, the PR Flex team leapt into action. We thought about what media outlet would really appreciate the story and where it could be told most effectively. We decided to reach out to our contacts at WJZ-TV in Baltimore, a top-rated local news station. They liked the idea and sent out reporter Ron Matz to do the story just a few days later, you can check it out here: Why did everyone win?
Direct Dimensions won because it received outstanding local media exposure, with the story running on the air several times. Then it lives online. There’s an active link to the story that Michael linked to on his blog, Twitter feed, and Facebook page.
These days, as many of us know, it’s not just about getting the press interested, but what you can do with the content once it runs. And in Direct Dimensions’ case, they maximized every outlet and opportunity. The news outlet (WJZ-TV) won because they got their hands on a great local story and provided interesting and exclusive content for their viewers.
The reporter had his image scanned in 3D and loved the experience.
