Kronos 400 Series Timeclock Configuration Guide

Posted on by  admin

I have a currently working system, 6.1 with 4500 clocks. I found an old 45 with 2.0 on it. I have been trying to get 2.2 then 2.3 on the old clock and have not been able to even get anywhere. I noticed that i might need dcm 6.0 or less to get this done.

I found 6.0 wfc and have it running. I cannot get dcm to work correctly. Dcm will open, i can login but get an error when adding anything. And i mean anything. I only wish to get this clock up and hold onto it as a spare. I have tried to contact support and they are either no help or want buckets of $$$.

Any words of advice or a direction to look in please? Great info on your site. Joe, I have 400 Series clocks and we currently use Krono Time Keeper and Gate Keeper. We are going to switch to ADP for the Payroll side and would like to keep the Gate Keeper running.

However, it requires a change to the current bar code as ADP does not allow for that number of digits. Current Kronos badge has 4 leading 0’s then 7 digit employee number ( including leading 0 ) then 3232 followed by 3 trailing 0’s.

The 3232 appears to be coming from Proc 29 Step 1 and 2. Can I change the clocks to operate on only the 7 digit employee number? Steve: Procedure 1 has some settings that relate to what numbers are read for badges, but I don’t think your situation is that complicated.

It sounds like your badges are ” 2 of 5 ” first two digits: Lead-in field next nine digits: Badge number 3232: Company code 000: Restriction Code Proc 11 Step 1 controls the type of symbologies that the terminal can read. The value of 0 enables all symbologies. The default is 236 which is normally a good value for most clients. If you are having difficulties try changing it to zero. Note: You can test out a specific badge using a Command 10 (which times out), or Command 90 Proc 99 (no timeout). Swipe the employee’s badge and the clock will display the badge number the clock is reading as well as the type of bar code.

The badge number part of the data string will be 9 digits whether it is Code 39 or 2 of 5. 2 of 5 uses an 18 digit data string; code 39 uses a 17 digit data string. When you ran the successful badge test, what symbology did it say the badge was? What do you mean by ” creating a 2 of 5 bar code ”? Are you making your own badges? Where did the badges come from? If the badge test is successful, then the problem is not the badge, it’s the clock configuration.

I’ll bet at some point down the line, someone monkeyed with the badge settings in Procedure 1. The easiest way out of this mess at this point would be to cold start the clock, set up the IP and password again, and re-download the configuration settings. Joe, I was using Codesoft to generate bar code labels to test. We have the Kronos badge maker IVIS software installed on another computer and that is what we are using currently. I am thinking on trying to create a new badge with that software in order to test also. What I am trying to do is to be able to print a bar code to put on a badge that will consist of only the employee number which is technically 6 digits. I want to be able to scan that bar code in the 400 series clock to open the door.

That same badge will then be swiped in the new ADP clock for punch in and punch out purposes. Trying to keep 1 badge 1 bar code for both readers. Joe, we had a 480f clock die so I purchased an ebay replacement which seemed dead as well, I purchased 5 more and same thing. Now I am left wondering what this may mean: each clock powers up, when I swipe the M badge (which works in our other clocks) I just get a number on the LCD, such as 99, 97, 93, 47, 53, 75.) no beep, the LCD otherwise shows date/time and KOS.3C00). This one clock out of 5 was working earlier about 2 hours ago but now it just does this number sequence thing. They can’t all be broken in the same way!

Joe, I’ve made progress, but I’m once again stuck on something that I bet is a simple fix. Out of the 5 clocks (with new batteries 🙂 3 have a good NIC that I can ping after configuring it, but I am unable to send date/time to them. I get an error in the kronos manager, but in device wizard (in kronos) I am able to test connection successfully, it shows me the boot and firmware version as well as clocks memory. Any idea why I may not be able to update date/time when it seemse connectivity is ok? Could it be firmware that doesn’t make my kronos install? My working clocks have slightly newer firmware.

I’m trying to get back up & running an ancient 400 Series clock (looks to be a 400460F). The company I work for had an extended power outage yesterday (10 hours) & after that the clock seems to have lost all of its settings–like a cold start had been performed on it. It was no longer communicating with the old DOS-based Timekeeper Central Program (TKC). Thanks to Joe’s directions under the “400 Clock: Cold Start” posting, I was able to get it communicating again & set the date/time on it (which had rolled back to Jan 1992) via TKC. Unfortunately this is as far as I’ve been able to get.

In entering Command 65 to “Edit Bells” I get the message “62 Error”. When I enter the 67 command to “Show Bells” it does not error & shows me there are 0 Bells. I’d like to know the following (if possible) in hopes of maintaining my sanity after fighting with this clock (1) What is a “62 Error” & how can I correct this? (2) This may be related to Q(1)–how can I add the Shift Bells/buzzers back in? (3) Is there a location that lists all the Commands & what they do & settings/values for them? I.e., is there an old Kronos 400 manual around somewhere? The company I work for has nothing–not even the Master Kronos swipe card.

I @ least have the Supervisor card which I was given 15 years ago, along with the Master card #. Just to note, this clock is so old, it’s communicating via RS232 to the PC running TKC–no NIC in it. Any help would be appreciated Thanks in advance.
